Gardai deal with 'Suspicious' device overnight

 

Members of the army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal corp where called in as the emergency services deal with an alleged “suspicious device” found in Cavan Town last night.

Gardaí have confirmed that they were alerted to a suspicious device discovered in the Townsparks area at around 10pm.

The Main Street to the Egg Market area was subsequently closed off for a period, with persons and motorists diverted away from the centre of town.

Person were also evacuated the area while the matter was being dealt with.

The suspicious device discovered was subsequently “declared safe” and investigations, gardai say, are “ongoing”.

A spokespersaon for An Garda Siochana informed The Anglo-Celt this morning: “Gardaí were alerted to a suspicious device at around 10pm last night, Tuesday, February 12. EOD attended scene and was declared safe.”

They add: “Investigations ongoing.”
