€20k grant for Erica’s Fairy Forest

As part of a whistle-stop tour of Cavan and Monaghan last Friday, the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring TD, also made an unscheduled stop at Erica’s Fairy Forest in Cootehill where it was announced the site would benefit from an allocation of €20,000.

Minister Heather Humphreys, who facilitated the visit, confirmed that Cootehill Area Development had secured the funding under the Outdoor Recreation Scheme for the further development of the fantastic fairy forest.

This amenity holds a very special place in people hearts and families travel from far and wide to visit Erica’s Fairy Forest. The funding has provided for a new walkway and public lighting at the facility making it more accessible for everybody including wheelchair users, families with buggies and older walkers to use,” the Minister said.

Local Fine Gael Councillor Carmel Brady also praised the works.

““The new walkway and lighting is a huge boost to the local community and the many local families in Cootehill and the surrounding areas who regularly visit Erica’s fairy forest.

It’s great to have an amenity like this available on our doorstep and it’s great to see the work that has been carried out in recent years to develop the area further.”
