Public meeting to block St Felim's sale

A public meeting is to be held the purpose of which is to mount a campaign to block the proposed sale of the the St. Felim's Hospital site in Cavan Town.

The derelict former Hospital and Nursing Home known and it's entire site extending to c.5.58 Hectares (c.11.32 acres) was put to market as an 'investment property' last week with a guide price of €200,000.

The proposed sale is on the Instructions of the Health Service Executive.

However, a public meeting is to take place to discuss the future of the Old Fever Hospital complex, which dates back to 1841, at the Farnham Arms Hotel later this evening, at 8pm.

The site also holds a small unmarked graveyard, in an area known as Bully's Acre.

Solidarity/ People Before Profit representative Emmett Smith, who is organising the public meeting, says: “Since plans to sell emerged last year, we as part of the Cavan Housing Action campaign, have opposed the giveaway of this priceless site.”

He adds: “The public opposition to this sale is enormous. We will demand that Cavan County Council purchase the site immediately and put it into use for the community of Cavan, while preserving its historic significance for all.”
