Cavan third from bottom of luckiest county list

Figures released by The National Lottery on major scratchcard wins has revealed that Cavan is among the least lucky counties when it comes to scratch card wins.

The figures compiled since 2015 show that Dublin is the luckiest county in terms of numbers of wins and scale of wins, securing 102 wins worth just over €5.3 million. Cavan ranks third from the bottom in terms of numbers of winners and fourth lowest in terms of average amounts won. Only Leitrim and Longford have fewer winners.

The average top scratch card win in Cavan is €37,000 which ranks the third lowest average amount in the four years of data processed by The National Lottery.

Laois comes bottom of the table for winning amounts with just eight winners averaging wins of €34,000, compared with Roscommon which has had six winners winning an average prize of €140,000.

Dublin is the "luckiest" county according to the Lotto chiefs with 102 major scratchcard winners over the four year period, pocketing a combined total of €5,365,000.

The organisers say that nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on scratch cards and all National Lottery games goes back to "good causes" in the areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts, heritage and the Irish language.
