Energy company gets planning approval

A Cavan energy company has been granted planning permission by Cavan County Council to progress with the construction of new industrial buildings at Drung. The planning application was submitted in December with the local authority just reaching it's decision today.

Optinergy is an Irish owned company, specialising in the provision of operations and maintenance services to the wind industry in Ireland and throughout Europe.

Optinergy services range from preventative maintenance to total asset management services, to providing its customers with specific solutions to problems.

Today Optinergy received permission to erect a new industrial building for storage and maintenance purposes at Cavanarainy, Drung, Co Cavan subject to 11 conditions.

In their submissions to the local authority the firm said that as a result of Brexit and changes to UK policy on renewable energy promotion the business completed by Optienergy dried up in 2018, and as such they reverted to a smaller area in Cavanarainy, Drung

Since then there has been an upswing and they have grown business in recent times and the warehouse they operate in Drung no longer services their needs.

The company said the new building will be a “modern purpose built building” for the maintenance and storage of major wind turbine components.

They say the facility, along with the headquarters in Stradoen, will help sustain up to 50 Optienergy employees. They point out that the wider Galetech Energy group employs 103 people from Stradone and the regional sub-office.

The site is currently a quarry floor, the stone broken for construction and will be used around the building once completed.

The conditions attached include the payment fo €24,280 to the local authority for public infrastructure, only being used for the purpose outlined in the planning application, visual and water considerations, and landscaping.
