Kingspan Breffni to re-open this Sunday

Excitement is building ahead of Sunday's Intermediate Football Championship final between Cuchulainns and Mullahoran, with the re-opening of Kingspan Breffni adding an extra novelty factor to the occasion.

The pitch had been closed since May as it was relaid for the first time since 1996.

Along with the new playing surface, there have also been some small works completed at the front of the stand, including a concrete walkway.

“It's great to have it open for the two finals [intermediate and senior], that was the plan all along and we have achieved that target,” stated county board secretary Liam McCabe.

“People won't notice a major difference in looking on from the stand but the surface itself has been completely relaid.”

McCabe confirmed that, aside from a potential replay in either final, the pitch will be closed again after the county finals until the new year.

“It will be saved for the opening round of the National League against Kerry, although there is a possibility we will hold one McKenna Cup match before that, those fixtures have not been released yet,” he said.

The IFC final throws in at 3pm on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Cavan have been drawn against Monaghan in the quarter-final of the 2019 Ulster SFC, with the winners taking on Down or Armagh in the semi-final.
