Artist Caroline exposes Skin for solo exhibition

Cavan artist Caroline Fay will be holding her first solo show of paintings and drawings, which will be officially opened by local poet Noel Monahan at the Teacher's Centre, Main Street, Cavan Town this Friday, March 12. A Fine Art graduate of DIT and Cavan Institute, Caroline's work has been widely exhibited and is held in both private and public collections nationwide. A large part of the work in the exhibition, which will run until March 19, was produced at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Co. Monaghan, for which Caroline won a bursary from the Arts Council in Cavan. The exhibition, entitled Skin, will feature a selection of oil paintings on canvas and drawings inspired by the human form. "Skin is the largest organ we possess. It is made up of multiple layers. It guards, protects, reacts to all sensations. And it scars easily. The human psyche is shaped the same," says Caroline. A native of Cavan, Caroline currently works from her studio in Derryheen, overlooking Loch Inchin, and will shortly be travelling to New York to study at the Arts Students' League and to introduce her work to an American audience. Cavan's Arts Officer, Catriona O'Reilly, had this to say about Caroline's work: '"The quality of her painting in terms precision of observation and sureness of colour is a homage to the Old Masters. She's very painterly in her approach, and I think that's great to see in a young artist, who will develop and progress as she matures". • Skin opens at 7.30pm on Friday until March 19, Monday-Saturday 12pm-5pm & Sunday 2pm-5pm.
