Cormac and his Casio.

Revolution promised as McCann does first solo gig in decade

Billed as 'one man, one Casio keyboard, one concert' renowned pianist Cormac McCann is set to play his first solo gig in almost a decade.
The Belturbet musician, known to many as – the Pianoman will do a solo gig on Sunday May 1 upstairs in Blessings Bar Cavan Town.
The concert entitled 'Cormac and the Revolution' will consist mostly of his own songs (and raps) with some of his parodies and favourite covers also promised. No doubt there will be a nod to Prince - the star whose death last week shocked the music world.
The piano will be left at home and the Casio keyboard which Cormac has become associated with will be his sonic weapon of choice. It will be the first time Cormac has given a solo performance in almost 10 years.
Back then he had created the show 'The piano man and friends' and also gave concerts with his own music for silent movies.
Cormac had been running Union Music School but has decided to close the business and move on.
'I worked hard to keep the school open and envisaged that a new director would be found, but in the end I think it was meant to be!'
Cormac now plans to travel for a short while and was inspired by friends to give a solo concert before he departs.
All proceeds will go to Cavan/Monaghan Carers charity. Gig starts at 8.30pm on Sunday May 1, and admission is just €5.
