Deceased furniture dealer's antiques and bygones for the hammer

Victor Mee Auctions, Cloverhill, Belturbet, will be holding an antique auction in their salesrooms on Bank Holiday Monday, May 3, at 6pm.

The auction will include lots from a number of clients, but the majority will comprise a selection of Edwardian, Georgian and Victorian furniture and bygones from Mrs. Muriel Gillespie and the late Mervyn Gillespie, Clonandra, Redhills.

Mr. Mee told The Anglo-Celt that Mr. Gillespie was a well-known furniture dealer in the 1970 and 1980s, before his retirement.

"Mr. Gillespie would have sold far and wide, so we expect there will be a lot of interest in this auction," commented Mr. Mee.

There will be some 600 lots in the auction, including items from other estates.

Among them will be various gems to appeal to different bidders' tastes and interests. Asked to choose a couple of items of particular interest, a Georgian mahogany server and an Edwardian mahogany inled longcase clock were first to spring to Mr. Mee's mind.

Also going under the hammer will be a range of ceramics, vintage toys and old world treasures, from oil lamps to staddle stones, which were used on farms for storing reeks of corn in the 18th century.

There is also a large number of garden items, all original and "rare enough things to get", as Mr. Mee puts it.
