The Celt congratulates Leaving Cert students on results day

Over 800 local Leaving Cert students from across the county learned of their Leaving Cert results earlier today, either receiving their results at the school with their peers or logging online to the State Examination website. Nationally, an increase in the numbers opting for the Higher Level Maths paper was anticipated, and this too was reflected locally with many schools reporting significantly higher marks. Almost all of the students who opted for the Higher paper will now benefit from an additional 25 bonus CAO points because they achieved a D3 or higher in the subject. Other subjects in which local students are said to have performed well in is Irish, with the growing number now also choosing to sit the Higher paper in that subject. Several schools from around the county also reportedly bucked the trend on sciences, with high grades achieved, whereas elsewhere around the country reports indicated significant and unexpected failure rates. In total 385 female and 422 male students from around the county, 50 of whom sat the Leaving Cert Applied papers received their results today (Wednesday) Students unhappy with their results can appeal, but this must be lodged with the State Examinations Commission by 5pm on Wednesday 5th September. In the meantime, first round CAO results will be available next week when many others will sit and wait with fingers crossed in the hope of earning their preferred college place. See next week's The Anglo-Celt for full coverage and round-up of all that happened from around the county on Leaving Cert results day.
