Staff cuts at Quinn Radiators under restructuring plan

Staff numbers at Quinn Radiators in Derrylin/Ballyconnell look set to be reduced by 13 after the firm this week announced restructuring plans, which will see a combination of redundancies, and jobs relocated to Wales. The Design office, comprised of four people, and UK sales administration team, which employs three people, will both be relocated to Newport, Wales. According to the company the restructuring has been prompted by market volumes decreasing dramatically, and cheap imports from Eastern Europe. A spokesman from Quinn Group told The Anglo-Celt: "Even though our market share has increased, we still need to do more to strengthen our focus on design, to streamline our operations and to reduce our operating costs. "Consequently, we are restructuring the business, which will see the relocation of our Design Office and our Merriott UK Sales Administration team, from Derrylin/Ballyconnell to Newport. This will bring these teams closer to our biggest market where the greater opportunity exists. Seven jobs are subject to relocation. "In addition we propose to streamline other Radiators' functions here, which could lead to six redundancies. The Quinn Group spokesman said they were "disappointed" that the question of redundancies arises and continued: "Where they do occur and where relocation may not be possible for any individual we will make every effort to redeploy them locally, and we are currently taking positive steps to facilitate that. " "Overall, under these proposals, the number of people in Radiators in Derrylin/Ballyconnell could reduce from 38 to 25, following a consultation process."
