McCarthy-Brady legal fee fundraiser to take place

The family of the Cavan-nanny currently in custody in the US charged with murdering a one-year-old baby girl are to host a fundraiser this weekend to assist the local woman in mounting her ongoing legal challenge to the case.
The event in support of Lavey-native Aisling McCarthy-Brady takes place on Friday, October 4 at the Hotel Kilmore on Friday evening, 8.30pm. With music from local artists, a raffle, and auction will also take place to raise funds, while voluntary donations will also be accepted at the door.
It is the first such support event to be hosted this side of the Atlantic, following two similar, and well supported events held among the Irish community living in Boston earlier this year.
Mrs McCarthy-Brady (35) is charged with first-degree murder, assault and battery causing the death of one-year-old baby girl Rehma Sabir. However, since her arrest  in connection with the child’s death in January, both she and her legal team have contested her innocence at every possible opportunity.
Her family have said in a poster circulated, that their daughter and sister loved living in Boston, and though residing there illegally after her Visa expired 13-years-ago, she had “worked hard and has always supported herself. “She has been wrongfully accused and imprisoned for something she didn’t do. As you can only imagine she is terrified and distraught.
“As a family we are 100% behind Aisling. She is innocent of this crime and not for a second did we dwell on anything else. Our main focus is to clear her name and get her home as soon as possible. We are heartbroken for her and there is not a second during the day that we are not thinking of her.”
The message on a poster circulated throughout the local area concludes: “For Aisling’s sake we now know we need as much help as we can get. We have to believe in the justice system in Massachusetts and hope the truth prevails”.
