Aldi has been granted permission for a store in Bailieborough, though traders have four weeks to appeal to An Bord Pleanala.

Aldi planning application granted for Bailieborough

The controversial planning application by Aldi for a store in Bailieborough has been granted.

Cavan County Council’s planning department today (Wednesday, March 19) said they have granted permission for a store measuring 1,550 square metres at junction of the R165 and the Bailieborough relief road at Beckscourt.

Objectors can make an appeal to the planning authority An Bord Pleanala within ‘four weeks beginning on the date of the decision’, which is dated by the local authority as March 13, 2014.

Traders in the town had several objections to the application, arguing among other points that it would be detrimental to the town's main street and that the economic impact on the area was underestimated by Aldi.

The permission is subject to 13 minor conditions, under ‘traffic safety and proper planning’ rules.
No construction can take place until the appeal period is over on April 11.
