Is he Independent or Fine Gael?

Stop the elections over misleading posters

An Independent candidate is calling for the postponement of the local elections over candidates’ posters.
Noreen Briddigkeit is running in Belturbet-Cavan, and is calling for a halt to the elections over “the most misleading information any of us Independents have ever seen” on election posters “which leaves people in the dark as to who they are standing for at all...”
Election hopeful Briddigkeit referenced the recent controversy over the posters and fliers of Fine Gael member Ronan McMahon, whose party description is 'Independent Fine Gael’.
The son of a former Fine Gael TD and senator, Mr McMahon failed to be selected by the party to run in the Templeogue-Terenure constituency in May’s local elections, but is now running for South Dublin County Council under an 'Independent Fine Gael’, he will appear as 'non-party’ on the ballot paper. “I think I would be accused of misleading the voters if I didn’t put my link to Fine Gael,” McMahon insisted. “I have faith and confidence that they are not being confused as I do have strong links to Fine Gael. I am there since I was a child and my father was very much involved,” said the Fine Gael party member, who added that he was not a “nodding dog”. Fine Gael say McMahon is not a candidate for the party.
The explanation does not satisfy Ms Briddigkeit.
“I am calling for a halt of the election campaign because of Fine Gael, for one, is putting up misleading posters giving the impression that these are Independent candidates.
“It’s reminiscent of the last referendum Government campaign where they misled the electorate into believing there was no choice than to say 'Yes’. These posters need to be taken down and the election day reset.
“That referendum is still under challenge,” she said.
“I can and will not stand by and let this type of deception influence the local elections,” she vowed.
