Two dead in latest Monaghan crash

Gardai in Carrickmacross are investigating a two vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the N2 at Carrickmacross at approximately 11am this morning. It brings the death toll on Monaghan roads to four over the past seven days.

A male in his 60’s and a male in his late 50’s who were the drivers and sole occupants of the cars were fatally injured when their cars collided.

They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The road is currently closed for an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

Gardai wish to appeal for witnesses to this collision to contact Carrickmacross Garda Station on 042 9690190, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

The accident comes less than a week after two other fatal road traffic accidents in the county.

A motorcyclist was fatally injured in a collision involving a 4x4 on the N2 at Broomfield in Castleblayney at 1.30pm last Wednesday.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at scene. His body was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth.

Meanwhile, a man died in a a single vehicle car crash at Coolcollid, Glaslough, County Monaghan on July 4. The man (70) suffered fatal injuries when the vehicle he was driving left the road.
