Tens of thousands attending Taste of Cavan 2014

The Taste of Cavan Food Festival continues today (Saturday), August 9, at The Anglo-Celt marquee in the grounds of Cavan Institute on Cathedral Road. It comes to an end at 6pm this evening, by which times it's expected more than 40,000 will have filed through so sample the many magnificent tastes of Cavan...

A bigger and better event has been organised this year with more than 80 exhibitors displaying a variety of produce from award-winning cheeses, chocolate, ice-cream, organic sausages, boxty, bread, muffins, mushrooms, liquors, honey, meats and jams and much, much more besides.

More family-orientated attractions also including a climbing wall, kiddies’ train, bungee trampoline, bubble sports and the Agri-Aware pet farm.

This year also sees a craft beef, wine and barbecue area with free shuttle buses to and from the town.

Art, ents and sports

Rianta Art is out in force again hosting 'An Artist’s Palette’ at the Courthouse until Sunday night (August 10); while at the Town Hall Theatre, Philip Doherty’s new play 'Shell Shock’ will be staged. Set in Cavan, this features Rory McCabe, an alienated youth fixated on his great-grandfather’s heroic legacy in the war. For the more active, a static cycle is planned for the Saturday at the Market Square.

Value for money
Admission to the Taste of Cavan event at the Institute is €3 per person with U12s free. The fee covers plenty of tasters and all of the demonstrations.
