Four sitting councillors out
Fianna Fáil chief whip, Clifford Kelly (FF), has lost his seat on Cavan County Council in the biggest shock in the county. The Bailieboro electoral area had the greatest change with four sitting councillors losing their seat including Cllr. Francis McDermott (FF), Cllr. Michael McCarey (FF) and Cllr. Freddie Kettyle (FG).
The final seats in the Bailieboro area were determined in the eight count with John O'Hare (FG) exceeding the quota. Fergal Curtin (FF), Cllr. Paddy McDonald (SF) and David Blake (FG) took the last three seats without reaching the quota.
The followed Niamh Smyth (FF) who was elected on the fourth count, Cllr. Sean McKiernan (FG) who was elected on the sixth count and Cllr. Aidan Boyle (FG) who was elected on the seventh count.
The state of the parties in the area now is Fine Gael, four; Fianna Fáil, two; and Sinn Féin one. Fianna Fáil has lost a seat at the expense of Fine Gael.
Full detailed election analysis, count results and photographs will be published in the Anglo-Celt on Wednesday.
