A full recount of the vote in the Belturbet electoral area will get underway at 10am on Monday morning as the main parties in contention for the final seats are understood to be seeking legal advice.

The recount was called after there was just one vote between the two lowest candidates on the ninth count. Damien Brady (SF) is on 1,004, with Seamus McGahern (FF) on 1,003.

Cllr. John Paul Feeley (FF) had reached 1,100 and Cllr. Sean Smith (FF) 1,082.

Already deemed elected before the ninth count were Cllr. Maura Maguire Lynch (FG) on the first count and Cllr. Peter McVitty (FG) on the sixth count.
