Virginia farmer is face of Tesco

Virginia Farmer John Smith is the face of a new fresh food nationwide promotion at Tesco. The beef farmer is one of 1,685 farmers who supply Certified Irish Angus Beef to Tesco. He will appear in a range of brochures and other promotional material highlighting Tesco's local suppliers and producers. The promotional campaign is part of the Irish Favourites Week running at Tesco stores nationwide through September, to showcase and promote those food and non-food products that are the most popular with Irish customers. Tesco Cavan store manager Gary O'Regan said: "Tesco is a proud supporter of the Irish food sector and we're committed to using as much locally supplied produce as we can. John is one of many Cavan and local suppliers to our stores. We're delighted that John is part of this national customer information campaign." John Smith's Longfield Farm at Virginia was founded by his family in the late 1800s. Its Irish Angus beef heritage began with John's great grandfather, who imported the farm's first bull from Scotland. Beef from John's farm is among 1,045 tonnes of Certified Irish Angus Beef sold in Tesco Ireland stores each year.
