Donovan turns Arts Office mellow!

The 1960s pop legend, Donovan, is coming to Cavan for a glorious weekend this July, and to celebrate a suitably mellowed Cavan Arts Office is giving away a pair of weekend passes each to five lucky readers of the Anglo-Celt.

Donovan was at the vanguard of the pop revolution, when his songs including the famed tune Mellow Yellow, became the soundtrack for a generation. The Scottish poet and artist was the writer and performer of classic hits also including Catch the Wind and Sunshine Superman.

The programme for the weekend (July 10-12) includes the launch of an exhibition of Donovan"s artwork at Cavan County Museum, a concert in tribute to Donovan and with performances by him, also taking place at the museum, a screening of the award-winning documentary, Sunshine Superman, at the Ramor Theatre and a rare Q&A session.

Arts officer Catriona O"Reilly said it"s a coup for Cavan. 'People will be able to say they saw Donovan in Ballyjamesduff,' said Catriona.

'There"s a real feel-good factor about the weekend,' added Savina Donohoe, Cavan County Museum. 'And tickets are reasonably priced, which is important the way things are at the moment.'

'For years we"ve been crying out to Paddy Reilly to come back to Ballyjamesduff,' laughed Martin Donohoe, Cavan trad" musician, who was a key link in the organisation of Donovan Days weekend. 'Well, Paddy Reilly didn"t hear us, but Donovan did!'
