Blood (fake), sweat (most definitely real) and beers was the name of the game at Belturbet last Friday night for the hugely-popular annual fancy dress, one of the highlights of the Festival of the Erne.

The town was thronged, with costumes and capers of every description. From life-size Rubix cubes to portaloos to the old favourites, Michael Jackson and clown outfits, this was a kaleidoscope of colour and fun.

"Just when you're finished laughing at someone's outfit, an even better one comes along!" smiled one reveller, who proceeded to point out a random grown man in a fridge outfit - complete with milk and even a few bottles of Budweiser inside - as proof.

Very well-stewarded and, as always, well-organised, the event was once again an outstanding success and continues to grow as one of the most popular fancy dress events anywhere in the country.

Rumour has it that there are some big plans afoot for 2011 already. Watch this space!
