Some readers might remember the Hillman Minx the Cavan chemist Mr. Henderson owned in the 1950s, but fewer will know that it was rescued from a field and lovingly restored by James Allen from the Celtic Old Vehicle Club some years ago.

The beautiful example of motoring from another age will be on display at first ever Indoor Vintage and Classic Show, in Kells on Saturday, March 13 and Sunday 14 alongside the 1930 Ford Model A truck that John-Boy drove in the Waltons on TV and 100 more vintage and classic cars and motorcycles, many of which belong to Breffni Vintage Club.

Eugene Markey of Canningstown, the chairman of the Breffni Vintage Club, owns the Waltons truck and a 1938 Ford Prefect Convertible, one of only five survivors of this model in the world. Motorcycle enthusiasts will enjoy a 1911 James motorcycle and sidecar, owned by Ciaran Duffy from Cavan, and there is a 1937 Ford 7W 10 belonging to John Muhood of Breffni Vintage Club. The Mercedes 280 SE that Raymond drove in the Irish TV series Bachelors Walk will also be on display during the two-day show.

"The adverse weather conditions will not be an issue for the organisers as the cars and motorcycles will be on display in an indoor area that covers two floors of the 33,000 sq foot showrooms at McKeon Motors, Bective Street, Kells," said Mr. Markey. "The organisers plan to have a number of displays over the two days including vintage, classic and American cars and motorcycles."

The proceeds from the show will support Ireland's first air ambulance, to be launched in May - members will be on hand over the weekend to explain.

The Indoor Vintage and Classic Motor show is on Saturday, March 13 and Sunday 14 from noon to 5pm. If you would like to exhibit a car, phone Martin Weldon of the Boyne Valley Automobile and Motorcycle Club at 086-8751128. See mckeonmotors.ie or bvamc.ie.
