The death occurred on Sunday, January 24, of Pat Sharkey, Drumalee. Aged 71, he had been in failing health for some time. A staunch GAA supporter, Pat was a life-long member of Drumalee GFC. His father Tommy was one of the founder members of the club back in the 50s. He played junior football with the club and in later years served in various positions including chairman and secretary, as well as on various sub-committees.
Pat was among those who helped upgrade the playing facilities as St. Felim's Park and which is regarded as one of the top grounds in the county. He was a true GAA supporter and along with his late wife, Veronica, who predeceased him two years ago, rarely missed a game at either club or county level. He enjoyed the cut and thrust of clashes especially local derbies involving the club against Killygarry or Cavan Gaels. He was born into a household that supported the GAA in every facet of its organisation and he will be sadly missed at the club and county games. One of the proudest days was at the official opening of the club grounds, St.Felim's Park in 2002. He is survived by his son Donal, daughters, Mary and Nidale and his brother, Sean. The funeral took place from the Cathedral to Cullies cemetery.
There was a Guard of Honour of members of Drumalee GFC and Fianna Fáil at the removal of the remains on the previous Monday evening.
