Anglo-Celt Rehab Cavan Person of the Year 2010 nominees - Marian Bradley
Marian Bradley, Ballyhugh House Arts and Cultural Centre
After Marian married Joe and moved to the west Cavan area in 1983, she quickly became involved in cultural activities in the community, including training teams for Drumlane Scór.
Concerned that the country's rural crafts, customs and traditions were dying out and could be lost forever, she spearheaded the establishment of the successful Ballyhugh Arts And Cultural Centre, dedicated to preserving the rich cultural heritage of the region.
It has become a focal point and is open to everyone. Apart from a small initial grant from Leader, she has received no financial assistance for the project.
It is a testament to Marian's clarity of vision that the focus of Ballyhugh has not changed since its inception in the early 1990s, and she continues to share her love of culture as well as holding history and craft workshops, nature walks, ceilis and concerts.
Marian's ability to impart knowledge is enjoyed by children at summer camps, Active Age adults and all in between.
She excels at promoting a healthy lifestyle through countryhouse dancing classes and talks on the nutritional and medical benefits of wild flowers and herbs.
She has done a huge amount to save old customs and traditions, generations to come will benefit from her commitment.
