The late Andrew Grene.
If everything goes according to plan the remains of the late Andrew Grene, who died tragically in the Haiti earthquake, will be flown to Ireland on Friday and he will be laid to rest in the Church of Ireland graveyard in Belturbet on Saturday, beside his late father Professor David Grene.
The delay in making final arrangements was mainly due to the UN getting its logistics co-ordinated, as they are struggling with the scale of the disaster.
Andrew's twin brother, Gregory Grene, told The Anglo-Celt that they are currently establising a new charity in place and it will be called the Andrew Grene Foundation and it should be in place as he is laid to rest in Belturbet.
"This foundation will be dedicated to educating the youth of Haiti. The exact format, whether an individual scholarship, or scholarships, or even support for a school, is still to be determined, as it will be dependent on the kind response we receive," said Gregory. Donations will be gratefully accepted in lieu of flowers.
He added that the family strongly feels this would be most in accordance with Andrew's wishes, and insofar as humanly possible, every penny received will go directly to its intended beneficiaries.
"And we hope insofar as possible to gain some solace in the perpetuation of his name in a cause that he would have passionately believed in, and the belief that his loss, while devastatingly random, has not been in vain," said Gregory.
He told The Anglo Celt that there had been a wonderful and deeply appreciated, outpouring of support from our readership, which was most appreciated.
