Cavan arcade appeal

The decision by Cavan Town Council to grant planning permission for the change of use of storage/office space on Connolly Street, Cavan, for use as an arcade amusement has been appealed to the planning appeals board.

The Irish Amusement Trades Association has lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanála, while a separate appeal has also been lodged by Claran Limited.

DunneCrowe Limited is the company, which has successfully attained planning permission from the town council.

The case is due to be decided by the planning appeals board by June 23, 2010.

Boys of St. Columb's

"The Boys of St. Columb's" the highly acclaimed documentary produced by Kevin McCann's film company, maccana Teoranta is being shown on BBC tonight Wednesday at 10.45 pm. The documentary has been written by fellow Belturbet man, Maurice Fitzpatrick, son of Seamus, the well known town councillor.

Meanwhile Kevin is heading off the Luxembourg for a producer workshop involving producers from 28 different countries to explore ways of pushing out the boundaries of film production. Anyone with ideas they wish to share with Kevin on films or documentaries for this area can contact him at kevin@maccana.ie

Nyah on the radio

Nyah festival founder and Fleadh events and entertainment chairman Martin Donohoe and his family have been invited to do a traditional music performance and interview on RTÉ Radio One on St. Patrick's Day. It is to be aired live as part of a festive broadcast. See rte.ie for schedules.

Student art exhibition

Midterm Break, an exhibition of work by transition year students of St. Clare's College, Ballyjamesduff will open at Cavan County Museum next Thursday, March 18 at 8pm.

The official opening will be by artist Jim McPartlin and there will be a welcome by Cllr. Winston Bennett, chairperson of Cavan County Council.
