Cake sale/coffee morning Cake sale/coffee morning in aid of upkeep of St. Brigid's Community Centre, Loch Gowna will take place on Sunday next, February 13, after 11am mass in the Centre. His remains were to St. Mary's Church, Moyne on Monday evening and following funeral mass on Tuesday burial took place in Legga Cemetery. CE Project Any person interested in joining a CE Project in the Gowna area must be signing with Social Welfare for 52 weeks or more and also be registered with FAS and inform FAS that they are interested in joining a CE Project in the Gowna area. FETAC Level 3 Certificate in Horticulture This course will begin in the Realtog Centre, Kilnaleck within the next month. The course costs €30 which can be paid in instalments. The course will run in the evenings and covers the basic knowledge and skills needed to grow and maintain a variety of plants, develop safe working practices, develop an appreciation of nature and the environment, develop teamwork skills. Congratulations Congratulations to Anita Kinkade, Cornagran, Loch Gowna who recently was awarded a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Nursing from Dundalk Institute of Technology. Anita is now serving on the nursing staff of Cavan General Hospital. New principal Congratulations to Mrs. Kate Crosson who has been appointed Principal of St. Patrick's NS, Loch Gowna. We wish her many years of health and success in her new role at the school. Teacher retires We send our best wishes to John Keogh, Cleenrah, Aughnacliffe, principal teacher of St. Patrick's NS, Loch Gowna who has retired from teaching having served 36 years. John began teaching in Cortober school in 1975 and transferred to Gowna in 1983 and replaced Mr. Desmond Coyle. He was very popular at the school not just with all his teaching colleagues but with all the children and parents down through the years. John was a teacher with a wide range of interests and abilities from computers to the workings of a car engine, to GAA sport and local history, to indigenous fauna and flora. He will be missed by all the pupils for his humorous jokes, nature walks and computer skills. On the day of his departure (Monday, January 31) the teachers and parents organised a prayer service in the Community Centre led by Fr. PJ Fitzpatrick with tributes paid to John from his teaching colleagues and pupils, and the end of service refreshments were provided by the Parents Association. We wish John many years of good health and happiness in his retirement.
