Formerly self-employed not qualifying for benefits

St Vincent De Paul volunteers have pointed the finger at Social Welfare rules whereby formerly self-employed people don't qualify for Jobseeker's Benefit as being central to the financial hardship in which many people in County Cavan now find themselves.
Traditionally a county where entrepreneurship is demanded because of the shortage ready-made job opportunities, Cavan is now home to many unemployed people who were formerly self-employed and don't have the same entitlements as their former PAYE counterparts.
