Budget hits rural schools in Cavan

Ten Cavan schools face possible closure if they cannot almost double their current required enrolements by September 2014 in order to retain their two-teacher status. In all 44 small national schools throughout County Cavan and 36 in Monaghan will be under increasing pressure to retain their current staffing levels as a result of Monday's Budget announcements by Minister Brendan Howlin.
