Castleblayeny enjoyed good news on the business front with the opening of a new SuperValu store in Glencarn Town Centre, Castleblayney employing 70 staff. The opening is part of SuperValu's network expansion announced earlier this year which will see 400 new jobs created and five new stores opened across Ireland.

Measuring approximately 8,000 sq. feet, the supermarket replaced the existing Centra store on the site. The new SuperValu store will place a strong emphasis on supporting Irish suppliers and stocking Irish-made produce, with 75% of all goods available in the store either produced or sourced in Ireland.

Additionally, the store will sell only 100% Irish meat and poultry. The store will also boast a fresh food offering, which includes an expert butchery department, a fresh fruit and vegetable selection and a range of exclusive breads from its own in-store bakery department.

Commentating at the launch, Peter McMahon said: "As a family run business with nearly 50 years retail experience in Castleblayney we are very excited to open a SuperValu store in the town. The local community can expect the same excellent customer service, along with a huge range of products at great value for money, including the awarding winning SuperValu Own Brand range."
