Dissident republican arrests in Cavan and Leitrim

Gardaí investigating the activities of dissident republicans and the fatal shooting of a prison officer just over a year ago have arrested two men in Cavan and Leitrim.

As part of an ongoing operation by the Special Detective Unit targeting dissident republicans and in particular their involvement in the murder of David Black, a number of searches were carried out today, (December 2) in the Leitrim and Cavan areas.

David Black, a 52-year-old father of twowas shot as he drove to work at Maghaberry prison, on the M1 in County Armagh on November 1  2012.

The two men, one aged 51 and one aged 34 have been arrested under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 and are being detained at Garda stations in the Cavan area. The men can be detained for up to 72 hours.
