Cavans cillian faces europes elite in champions league

Cavan man Cillian Sheridan, whose goal rounded off an emphatic win for current club Apoel Nicosia to book their place in the Champions League, is now set to face European heavyweights Barcelona, PSG, and Ajax. The Cypriot club were this afternoon drawn in what many have dubbed 'the group of death'.

The Bailieborough-native, who is set to be the only Irishman to line out in Europe's elite competition this season, does have some prior experience of playing Champions League football. He made three appearances for former club Celtic in 2008, including a Parkhead start against Manchester United.

Sheridan most recently scored in Apoel's 4-0 demolition of Danish side Aalborg on Tuesday night last.

The 25-year-old, an ardent social media user is bemused by the amount of attention that has come after his the club's qualification. He's endorsed the fact he is the country's sole representative by stating on Twitter that his gravestone will read 'The only Irishman left in the Champions League.”

Sherdian's Apoel have been drawn in Group F against the likes of Barcelona, with Messi, Neymar et al in their ranks; PSG with Ibrahimovic, Thiago and Moura; and Ajax, who are managed by World Cup winner Frank de Boer.

After the draw Sheridan, in typical wry fashion took to social media again, this time to Tweet a single word 'Easy'.
