Breaking gardai seize drugs worth 6000

Gardai in Cavan have seized suspected illegal drugs believed to be worth in the region of €6,000.

The find came as members of the local drug unit, assisted by uniformed members stopped a car travelling on the Dublin Road out of Cavan Town late last night, February 10.

The search of the car, which occurred at approximately 11pm, uncovered an estimated €3,000 worth of suspected drugs, believed to be cannabis.

In a further follow up search, which occurred at a premises in Cavan Town, gardai found a further suspected €3,000 worth of drugs, a large quantity of tablets believed to be ecstasy.

The drugs found have been sent for analysis for verification purposes.

The discovery of drugs by gardai comes as part of an ongoing crackdown on dealing of illegal substances in the Cavan Town area and surrounding region.

It is the first major drugs bust by the local force so far this year, and follows on from a number of significant drug finds locally last year.
