Hyland will probably stay for fourth year

Cavan manager Terry Hyland says he will 'probably' stay on for a fourth year as manager of the senior footballers, after a meeting on Monday night backed him.

The Cavan Management Committee gave Hyland the backing he needed on Monday night to continue in the role after a disappointing Championship.

However, Hyland says he not only has the backing of the committee but also the players.

'Well, put it this way, we have discussed it among the management and we probably will stay on for the last year,' he told The Irish News.

'We still have a year to run. I spoke to them [the players]. They wanted us to stay on. They felt themselves that we were only a kick of the ball away from beating Monaghan and who knows what would have happened after that,' he said.

Terry Hyland has signalled his intention to stay on for a fourth year as manager of the Cavan senior footballers.

The seniors suffered a narrow Championship defeat to Monaghan, who went on to win Ulster but had a poor showing against Roscommon in the qualifiers, resulting in a 3-17 to 1-16 loss at Kingspan Breffni Park.

Hyland has overseen three Ulster u21 titles and in 2013 his seniors made the last eight in the championship.
