Health promotion day planed for cavan general

Cavan and Monaghan Hospital will hold a Health Promotion Information Day next month, on Saturday, October 3, 2015, from 11am to 4pm.

The theme of the free access day is 'Be Active, Be Healthy, Be Happy', and it the HSE aims to provide an opportunity for children from 'tots to teens' to visit the hospital, meet with staff and experience a hospital environment through the medium of play, education and demonstrations.

Staff from the hospital and representatives from a number of other agencies will be present on the day including Teagasc, the local Gardai, the National Childhood Network and the Road Safety Authority. The topics which will be highlighted include:

-Physical exercise
- Water safety
- Healthy lunches
- Healthy heart
- Hand hygiene
- Resusitation
- Bone health
- Managing asthma
- Continence promotion
- Oral/dental health
- The benefits of playbase learning in promoting childrens' health and wellbeing
- Advice on the correct use of schoolbags and footwear
- Health Promoting Schools Initiative
- Alcohol and drug awareness
- Farm safety
- Fire safety in the home

On campus will also be members of the Cavan Fire Bridgade with their fire engine, the Ambulance Service with their ambulance, the GAA Cavan and Monaghan County Teams with the Sam Maguire Cup and the fifth successful World Handball Champion Paul Brady. Children are encourage to bring along their own doll/teddy and take part in many of the fun based activities including facepainting, meeting Peppa Pig, the Minions, and enjoy some healthy snacks and drinks.

All parents must remain on the campus to supervise their children at all times.
