The demonstration is organised by Right 2 Change.

Pro-choice rally today (6pm) in Cavan Town

There will be a pro-choice, Repeal the Eighth, demonstration today in Cavan Town.

At 6pm in Market Square, 12 women will stand in solidarity with the 12 women a day forced to leave Ireland to access a medical service available in all other EU countries, except Malta.

These women are also calling for a referendum to repeal the Eight Amendment, which restricts women’s access to abortion in Ireland.

The group would also like people to remember the recent horrific cases of Miss Y, Savita Halapanaavar and a clinically dead woman denied a dignified death, when deciding how to vote on the Eighth Amendment.

The demonstration is supported by Emmett Smith, the Right 2 Change candidate in the Cavan Monaghan constituency.

101 other Right 2 Change candidates nationwide are also calling for a repeal of the Eighth Amendment and to allow women the Right 2 Choose free, safe and legal abortion services in Ireland.
