'This criminal activity is designed to intimidate an entire community'

For the second time in as many months, Senior Executives at Quinn Industrial Holdings Limited, the company which run elements of the former Quinn Group, have received apparent death threats after signage was erected close to the company's headquarters on the Cavan-Fermanagh border.

With apparent connection to ongoing tensions over rights of access to wind farms on Doon mountain, the sign lists the names of Liam McCaffrey, Kevin Lunney, Tony Lunney and Dara O'Reilly, warning them to 'Remove the UDA + UVF OFF our mountain or face the gun'.

The chilling message appeared overnight, and comes just weeks after bullets were posted to staff from Vestas – the company servicing the Slieve Rushden windfarm.

Formerly owned by Quinn Insurance, the energy site was bought last year in a deal worth €100 million by Mantlin, whose parent company is European energy investment firm Platina Partners.

A spokesperson for QIHL hit out at the latest incident, claiming: “This criminal activity is designed to intimidate an entire community and local workforce and undermine businesses that continue to invest in sustaining and growing employment. Neither QIHL nor the local community will be intimidated by this self-serving bullying and criminal activity.”

Meanwhile, senior company staff at QIHL have in recent weeks been given security advice by both members of the Gardaí and PSNI as the acts of apparent intimidation have become more frequent.
