Cavan General continues visiting restrictions due to Norovirus

Visiting restrictions remain in place at Cavan General following the outbreak of a vomiting and diarrhoea bug there last week. Infection control measures are in place due to an occourence of the winter vomiting bug at the hospital.

Norovirus affects millions every year, triggering agonising bouts of sickness and diarrhoea. A spokesperson for the HSE said yesterday: “Restrictions are still in place on all wards until further notice allowing two family members to visit per day. An exemption applies in the case of critically ill patients, in which case the nurse in charge of the relevant ward should be contacted. Visiting restrictions are reviewed daily.”

While the Out Patient Departments and Emergency Department are not affected, patients are asked to refrain from attending hospital if they have been affected by vomiting and/or diarrhoea in the last 48 hours.
