CG Power quash rumours of redundancies in Cavan Town

Crompton Greaves (CG) Power has moved to quash rumours of redundancies at its Cavan Town facility – formerly Pauwels Trafo.

Speculation that the company was about to announce job losses or a reduced working week had grown in recent weeks. The rumours heightened this afternoon as news trickled through that a staff meeting was underway at the Hotel Kilmore, Cavan.

However, a spokesperson for the company, this afternoon, said: “This is to deny that this meeting is discussing any redundancy plan. It is an internal meeting on improving sales and profits.”

In October 2009, Pauwels Trafo rebranded and changed its name to CG to become integral with its parent company Crompton Greaves, which acquired the business in 2005.

The company's roots in Cavan go back to 1977 when it was established as Pauwels Trafo Ireland Ltd. It has since grown from strength to strength providing employment in Cavan and generating valuable business within the local community.

The company employs around 450 workers in its Cavan Town facility and is one of the town's largest employers in the private sector. It's thought that a 40 anniversary party for management and staff is planned for later in the year.

According to the company's own website: CG is a USD 2 billion engineering conglomerate with an impressive and diverse portfolio of products, solutions and services for Power and Industrial equipments and solutions, addressing myriad needs. Enjoying a reputation of stature for over seven decades, CG, which originates in India, has transformed itself into a global corporation. With a permanent footprint and manufacturing facilities in nine countries across Asia, Europe and North America, CG is fast emerging as a first choice supplier of high quality, ”smart” electrical, industrial and consumer products and solutions all over the world.
