This can be Doireann's legacy - says her heartbroken dad

Lee O'Brien made the emotional appeal yesterday (Tuesday) following an event in the Townhall on Sunday to celebrate Doireann's life. She was aged 12 years when she died on February 13.
'There was tears, there was laughter. The main thing in my mind is that it was a celebration of Doireann's life. The whole time I really felt her there with us,' said Lee of 'All the Colours of the Rainbow' gig in support of the family.
'We had no idea beyond the usual teen or pre-teen difficulties that occur, there were no indications at all. But we need to foster that awareness. It could be even the littlest thing, but it could end up being so important in that person's life. It needs to become compulsory that we think that way and watch out for each other, especially among young people,' said Lee.

'Overwhelmed'

The O'Brien's have been truly 'overwhelmed' by the incredible kindness and support shown to them since Doireann passed away. As part of that, the emotional music event on Sunday brought together one of the largest gatherings of local musicians seen in these parts for many years. It's something Mr O'Brien hopes can inspire similar collaborations to benefit other causes in future.
'There were times I was left just standing there looking at the crowd and nearly moved to tears. It was very special,' he said of the Townhall Arts Centre concert.
'It was amazing to have so many creative people together like that and the sense of community from that, it's hard to express in words,' he said.
Organised by Aisling Fay and Doireann’s grandmother Christine, the concert concluded in crescendo with all the acts joining on stage for renditions of ‘Walk On’ by Neil Young, ‘Tender’ by Blur, ‘God Only Knows’ by the Beach Boys, ‘Forever Young’ by Bob Dylan, and ‘Sit Down’ by English indie band, James.
Another moving moment saw Doireann’s little sister Eabha dance in silhouette to ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’, sang by Fiona Fitzpatrick, accompanied by Cormac McCann.
“Doireann would have loved it,” Mr O’Brien told The Anglo-Celt. “For us it was a great release. Of course it was emotional but there was a lot of healing there that night, for us and for anyone who felt the loss of Doireann as much as we did.
