Tullyvin Musical Society hit the high notes

A first time Cavan Musical Theatre group have been thrust into the limelight when they got a nod for the Oscars of Irish Musical Theatre. The Tullyvin Musical Society has secured an AIMS award nomination in their first venture when the association announced the shortlist for the awards in New Ross, Wexford on Sunday.

The Association of Irish Musical Societies nominated the Cavan troop for the award less than 19 months after they were founded. Tullyvin Musical Society is the youngest society in Ireland only formed in October 2015.

The Musical Director Vincent Tully said that there was a degree of shock to the announcement: “We weren't expecting anything from AIMS at all this year. We got an adjudication report back, but were absolute stunned to hear that Tullyvin Musical Society has been nominated for a coveted AIMS Award for “Best House Management”. We are absolutely delighted.”

The nomination for the prestigious award comes just ahead of auditions for their new production. On on June 1 casting will take place for the follow up to last year’s production of “Calamity Jane”.

“What makes this special for the society is that it is that it is only on a very rare occasion that a society will pick up a nomination in their first year of adjudication. It is a huge boost to the society ahead of the upcoming auditions for our next production, Dolly Parton’s, 9 to 5 The Musical,” the Musical Director said.

Vincent is pleased at the achievement, but recognises the standard of competition: “We will just have to wait and see what happens, we are not going down expecting to win. But just to have our names up there with such well established groups is a great honour. It sets a high bar for us, so no pressure for 9 to 5 in November,” he laughed.

If you are interested in taking part in the forthcoming productions of 9 to 5 then registration for anyone that would like to “give it a shot” are still open on the societies website: www.TullyvinMusicalSociety.com .
