Double Gold for Smithboro woman at World Transplant Games

Monaghan woman, Michelle Reinhardt McCabe had a successful first outing to the World Transplant Games. Michelle who had a kidney transplant in 2013 competed as part of Team Ireland at the international sporting event in Malaga. Team Ireland returned with an impressive haul of 32 medals in total, 14 Gold, 7 Silver and 11 Bronze medals.

The 27 member team was made up of kidney and liver transplant patients, who competed against 1000 other transplant athletes in Spain.  Michelle Reinhardt McCabe was one of only four newcomers to the team and her two gold medals in Athletics continued Ireland's success at the biennial games. 

The Irish Kidney Association co-ordinate the team for the event.  Team Ireland continued their long held record of winning medals on every day of the competition.
