Local store Manager wins €250k New Year ticket

It was a “dream start” to the New Year for Cavan man Piotr Kotwa who won €250,000 on the National Lottery’s Millionaire Raffle draw, which took place on New Year’s Eve.

Piotr, originally from Gdansk in Poland but living in Ireland for almost 12 years, won the second prize on the Millionaire Raffle. His raffle ticket number was 306241, and he collected his winnings at Lotto HQ yesterday.

The lucky store manager actually bought his golden ticket for the raffle in the store that he manages, Tarpey’s SuperValu on the Cootehill Road in Co. Cavan.

Cavan Town was one of the luckiest places in Ireland to purchase Lotto tickets over the festive season, with three winners scooping close to half a million euro between them.

The bubbly was flowing in Rudden’s Costcutters on Railway Road after it sold two winning tickets within days; while Tarpey’s SuperValu also had a €250,000 winner.

One lucky lady matched five numbers and the bonus to win €112,469 in the National Lottery Draw on Wednesday, December 27. The Quick Pick ticket was purchased for her as a gift by her father. The identity of the lucky winner is revealed in tomorrow's Celt as well as an exclusive interview with the family.

She has vowed to spend the money “wisely”. The numbers for the record were 17, 20, 22, 24, 25, 40 and the bonus 18.

The second win came on New Year’s Day, the National Lottery HQ announced that Rudden’s Costcutters had struck gold again selling a winning Christmas Millionaire Raffle ticket worth €100,000. The lucky ticket number is: 285203.

Proprietor Padraig Rudden was naturally thrilled that two winning tickets were sold in his premises.
“They are regular customers. They are in here every day of the week – it is great to see people you know winning the money,” enthused Mr Rudden. The Lotto rang him on Thursday morning, December 28, with the good news. “I was delighted and drove down to the shop straight away, wondering who it might be.”
When Padraig got a second phone call on Monday morning (New Year’s Day), that he had sold another winner, he could not believe it. “This is great news - it is great for the people who won it and it a nice amount to win.”
