ATM removal slammed

Confirmation that Ulster Bank has removed its ATM in Cootehill because it no longer owns the building, has been greeted with dismay by local customers who say they feel “stranded” and “abandoned” by the banking firm.

The ATM was removed last week and the move has provoked outrage locally.
“It’s not good enough,” a caller to The Anglo-Celt said on Monday. “How can they treat their customers like this? Leaving them stranded like his, it’s not good enough. It’s absolutely disgraceful how the bank has abandoned this town after all it did for them.”
The Ulster Bank branch in Cootehill closed its doors for the last time in September last year. The branch had been in existence in the town since around 1890.
On the same day, branches in Arvagh, Cavan; Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan and Edgeworthstown, Co Longford also closed.
The closures were part of Ulster Bank’s latest cost cutting efforts through nationwide restructuring.
