Two arrested after aggravated burglaries

 

Gardaí have arrested two people following terrifying armed burglaries of two homes in the Ballyjamesduff area early yesterday evening, Sunday April 29.

In two separate incidents the alleged victims, aged in their 70's and 90's respectively, are understood to have been threatrened at gunpoint.

The incidents occurred shortly after 7pm, when two intruders forced entry into the home of a woman aged in her 70s wjere they threatened her at gun point, before making off with quantity of jewellery and cash.

Minutes later two intruders entered a second house. They threatened the owner of the house, a man in his 90s, and managed to make off with a sum of cash.
The alarm was raised and during a follow up search operation by several local Garda units, a car was intercepted near Virginia.

The occupants of the car, a man in his 20s and woman in her 30s, were arrested and brought to Baileboro Garda Station.

They are both currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
A technical and forensic examination of the scenes has been carried out.

Investigating Gardai have also recovered some of the property taken during the burglaries.
The man and woman were not physically injured during the burglaries, but did subsequently receive medical treatment and assessment.

Investigations are ongoing and updates in the case will follow.
