The Spar at Drumacon was among those targeted by the gang.

Burglaries at three shops investigated

Burglaries and attempted break-ins at three shops are being investigated by gardaí in the Cavan area.

Believed to be connected, the spate of incidents took place at the weekend, between Sunday night into Monday morning, July 1-2.
It began with the theft of a car, a black Opel Zafira from outside a house in the Aughnaskerry area of Cavan Town, which preceded three incidents, two in Belturbet and one in Butlersbridge.
A side window of Spar at Drumacon on the outskirts of Belturbet was smashed between 3.45-4.30am, with raiders making off with cigarettes and a quantity of cash.
This was followed by a criminal damage at Spar in Kilconny, where the CCTV system there was interfered with, but no entry to the shop property was gained.
At around 4.52am, the owners of Foyne's in Butlersbridge were awoken by members of the same gang trying to gain entry to the village shop. The raiders were in the process of trying to force the door when they were disturbed and fled the scene.
The black coloured Opel Zafira was later found burned out by the side of the road in the Killynebber area on the outskirts of Cavan Town.
Gardaí are appealing to members of the public with any information to assist them with their enquiries.
