Man (60s) dies in Cavan crash

A man has died following a fatal road traffic collision in the county earlier today.

The road between Gannon's Cross and Butlersbridge has been closed since the accident occurred at around 2.20pm today, Saturday, December 7, and is now expected to remain closed until tomorrow at least tomorrow afternoon or until such time as garda forensics complete their investigation.

Diversions are in place via the Old Belturbet Road and Sugarloaf.

The driver of the car, a man in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was later removed to Cavan General Hospital.

The driver of the second vehicle, understood to be a lorry, was uninjured.

Gardaí are meanwhil appealing for anyone with information, particularly any road users with dash cam footage who may have been passing through the area at the time of the collision, to contact Cavan Garda Station on 049 436 8800 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
