Editor,

In an article in the Anglo-Celt of August 12 Seymour Crawford TD was attacking Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey, for his capital spending programme, which includes a railway link between Dublin and Navan.

Remarks like this do really beg the question of what would Mr. Crawford propose if and when Fine Gael gets into government. Perhaps Mr. Crawford does not think that a Dublin to Navan rail link would be such a good idea or a wise investment into a national transport infrastructure.

Perhaps Mr. Crawford is not convinced therefore that the commuters in this part of his constituency are deserving enough of a railway. Is he then not aware that according to the most recent census statistics, Cavan is demographically the fastest growing region in the constituency and therefore requires a transport network befitting the 21st century?

In this regard we wholeheartedly welcome the minister's rail plan and would expect nothing less from a Fine Gael-led government.

Bring it on Mr. Dempsey, bring it on.

Yours sincerely,

Christopher Kirk,

Baalaghanea,

Virginia.
