Brady cruises into last 16
Over 2,500 people enjoyed a tremendous action packed Saturday of World championship games in the Citywest Arena, where the reigning world champion - Mullahoran's Paul Brady - took centre stage on the day. Brady remains firmly on course for a record fourth world title in a row after he cruised into the last sixteen at the Citywest arena with a thumping 21-9, 21-1 over Cesar Sala on Saturday. Brady produced some of his customary bullet serves on his way to a classy victory over the American. The Cavan man has been joined in round three by rising Cork star, Killian Carroll, who will be Brady's next opponent following the teenager's eye-catching win over Aaron Garner. Another Cavan man, Michael Finnegan, Brady's doubles partner, is also through after beating Billy O'Donnell, while Robbie McCarthy was impressive in keeping Johnny Willoughby's challenge at bay. The Irish players haven't had things all their own way with Sean Lenning, Jonathan Iglesias, Naty Alvarado and Luis Cordova all keeping their title hopes alive with victories over Irish opponents. The closest encounter at the halfway stage of round two was the Lenning/Kelly affair which went to a tiebreaker before Lenning finally ended the Tyrone man's brave challenge with three aces to spare. The round two action was continuing at the citywest on Saturday evening with eight more places still up for grabs in the race for Brady's world title. Daily Tickets are available for the World Championships throughout the event, with opportunity to purchase at the Ticket Box Office at the front of The Citywest Arena on arrival.
