Lyng "a doubt" for June 6 but not ruled out for season

Contrary to recent suggestions in the local media, Micheal Lyng has not been ruled out for the remainder of the season, The Anglo Celt can reveal.

Cavan Gaels attacker Lyng suffered a hamstring injury at training last Thursday and it was reported that the 23-year-old was unlikely to feature in the county colours for the remainder of the season.

However, it has emerged that Lyng"s injury is at the lesser end of the scale and the half-forward - who has shown well in recent challenge matches for Cavan - could yet recover in time for the Ulster SFC quarter-final against Fermanagh on June 6.

'Micheal is probably doubtful for the Fermanagh match but there is no question of his being ruled out for the season,' county board PRO Mark Gillick stated this week.

'The injury to his hamstring isn"t that serious and we are confident that, if he didn"t make the Fermanagh game, he would be fit for the following championship match.'

The news that Lyng"s injury is not as serious as previously reported will come as a relief to Cavan manager Tom Carr.

Having recovered from serious injury setbacks in the past, DCU student Lyng had been in fine form in recent weeks.
